La Niña made its first appearance of the year at Lake Tahoe, blanketing Heavenly Mountain Resort with eight to 12 inches of new snow. Cold temperatures and scattered snow showers are predicted this week. Heavenly’s opening day is scheduled for Nov. 19, weather and conditions permitting. Under optimum conditions, Heavenly can cover 73 percent of its trails in machine-made snow.
“These early storms are great for creating that base we’re going to need to get open by Nov. 19,” said John Wagnon, Heavenly’s vice president of marketing and sales. “With a little help from Mother Nature, the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system will ensure our guests experience the best and most consistent snow surfaces that Lake Tahoe has to offer.”
